A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held between the World e-Governments Organization of Cities and Local Governments (WeGO) and the Korea Local Information Research & Development Institute (KLID) on April 6, 2016.  KLID, a government organization under the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Korea, specializes in local informatization and e-Government. Its main mission is to realize balanced local development by operating and managing various e-Government systems for local governments and municipalities across Korea. The MoU was signed by Dr. Young-sook Nam, Secretary General of WeGO and Dr. Yeongi Son, President of KLID.

WeGO and KLID will partner in developing rich ICT and e-Government projects geared towards WeGO member cities based on the parties' strong expertise and accumulated experience in e-Government. The two parties will explore opportunities for collaboration and joint activities to catalyze e-Government impact and sustainable city development through ICT in local government in Korea and around the world by harnessing the global membership of WeGO and the Korean nationwide municipal partnership and corporate networks of KLID. Areas of cooperation may entail partnering on  knowledge-sharing events and capacity building programs for local government officials, as well as seeking funding for joint projects and encouraging inter-city cooperation among cities in their respective networks.
